Meet Laura
Hi! I’m a queer-identified Pelvic Health Physical Therapist and AASECT Certified Sexuality Counselor.
I started Groove to offer affirming, innovative care for people who are often overlooked in traditional pelvic health settings.
Many years ago, during a routine GYN exam, I had an experience that shifted my perspective. After sharing that my partner was a woman, I was met with microaggression and dismissal and I knew I was being treated differently because of my identity. That moment shaped how I deliver care. I never want anyone to feel unseen, unheard, or disrespected because of who they are.
Before I entered healthcare, I spent 10 years as a professional oboist. Eventually, I shifted paths and earned my Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Northwestern University, later completing the Pelvic Rehabilitation Practitioner Certification (PRPC) through the Herman & Wallace Institute. I’ve pursued additional training in the care of trans and gender expansive folks, including support before and after gender-affirming surgery.
My work centers on gender-affirming care, queer health, sexual health for all, cisgender men’s pelvic health, pelvic pain, and the intersection of pelvic function with movement and performance. I aim to provide whole-person care that supports people in living more connected and empowered lives.
I’m a member of WPATH, GLMA, ISSWSH, ISSM, and AASECT, and I regularly speak and teach on topics including gender-affirming care, inclusive pelvic health, sexual wellness, and urologic and sexual health conditions across the gender spectrum.
When I’m not in the clinic, you can find me out exploring the city with my partner, lifting at the gym, attending concerts or opera, avidly cheering for women’s sports, or spending time in nature.
